Ruud-Jan Kokke, TC stool, 1989

The TC stool was designed in 1989 by Ruud-Jan Kokke at the request of the Museum Boymans van Beuningen in Rotterdam. Mrs Trees Coenders organised tours for the museum and was looking for a stool that could easily be taken along during the tour. The result was the TC stool, lightweight (less than 1 kg), strong and stackable. The stool ended up taking its name from her.

The round TC stool is made of thin 2 millimetres birch plywood, transparent lacquered or black stained. The slots all around make the stool visually light and the handle in the seat makes it easy to lift up.

The stool is part of the collection of a.o: The Museum of Modern Art New York, Cooper Hewitt Museum New York, Museum für Angewandte Kunst Köln and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. The design also won several prizes such as the Design Yearbook prize 1998 and the first prize at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair ICFF in New York.
