Bart Nieuwenhuijs (1949-2017) graduated cum laude from the Rietveld Academy in 1969. He followed in the footsteps of his father (Henk Nieuwenhuijs), who was also a photographer and often collaborated with Joop Swart, founder of Avenue magazine. Bart Nieuwenhuijs met Joop Swart through him. Together with Swart he traveled the world and worked on many reports and journalistic productions, for magazines such as Avenue and the Flying Dutchman, but also on projects for De Bijenkorf, KLM and Albert Heijn. After a successful period working in magazine photography, Nieuwenhuijs turned to advertising photography. He was very versatile and photographed the most diverse subjects. Nieuwenhuijs was also a board member at World Press Photo for many years.
