Kjell Richardsen table and two chairs
Rare set of two Tønnestav chairs and a table designed by the Norwegian designer Kjell Richardsen for Tynes Møbelfabrikk in 1960. The table is striking because of its sleek design with dark stripes. It has an extension leaf of 55 cm, which is easy to attach to one end of the table. The chairs are constructed from bent plywood slats with elegant metal legs.
The design of the Tønnestav chair by Richardsen is reminiscent of the Scandia chair designed by Hans Brattrud in 1957. Richardsen and Brattrud went to the same design school in the 1950s. The resemblance led to a lawsuit and Richardsen was charged with plagiarism. Due to the lawsuit, the chair was quickly taken out of production and few were made of it. The Tønnestav chair by Richardsen is therefore rare.
