Eric Mathijsen worked as a young artist for Jaap Egmond (1913-1997). Jaap Egmond (as well as contemporary Jan Schoonhoven) is known for his papier-mâché reliefs. But Jaap Egmond also made sculptures from steel and Mathijsen cut and welded the steel for his master. Eric Mathijsen has now also started making special reliefs from papier-mâché. The basis for this work of art consists of cut cans.
